Barbara-Jean completed the Art Fundamentals Program at Sheridan College and then pursued Interior Design as a career path. After graduation, she settled in her hometown of Collingwood and operated a successful design business for almost 15 years. Working on numerous commercial and residential projects, she dreamed of retiring to her love of fine arts. Her husband's career path took her and her family to Nevada for almost two years and then British Columbia for seven. Currently settled in the Niagara area, she has focused on her profession as a full-time artist.
Working mainly in acrylic, her subject matter varies continuously as she works toward her own specific style. Animals in particular are often painted on canvas as a story of connection. Connection to the viewer, the subject and the artist. Moving freely from animals to landscapes, florals and a dabble in abstract express her love of colour.
Her works have been exhibited in mostly Ontario but can also be found in private collections across Canada, the USA and England.
Barbara's art is available for viewing and purchase in the bakery.
SHELLEY ANNE ZWINGLI
Shelley was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Her family relocated to Melfort, Saskatchewan in 1972 where she resided until she graduated from Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate in 1982. In April 2013 Shelley awoke after an emergency appendectomy surgery to discover she had almost died in the days that followed in ICU. She had a near-death experience (NDE) but that's only the beginning of the story told in her intensely personal memoir Volcanoes Butterflies & Jesus, Volume 1: Volcanoes the first book in a three part series.
Shelley's book is available in the bakery for purchase.
With a background of over 30 years of industry experience as an illustrator, designer, teacher and art director, Sharon Matthews is an accomplished, Hamilton-based, artist who has recently turned her attention towards portraiture and fine art. She works in mixed media to convey the subtle facets of character, time and transition in her subjects.
Painting the unseen forces within and around us is a great challenge and is what Sharon does each time she paints or draws. She approaches the enigmatic quality of each individual and then brilliantly communicates the nature of the person with the language of lines, shapes, space and colour, to great acclaim.
An award winning graduate of Sheridan College, including Governor General’s Silver medal for “Best-of-Year”, her career began with 6 years at McGraw-Hill Ryerson as a designer and art director, followed by fifteen years as the VP and Art Director for Matthews Communications Design, which she co-founded. During these years she received invitations to teach at Sheridan College, Banff Centre Publishing Workshop and Max the Mutt, Toronto (a private animation school).
It has been said, that what makes Sharon exceptional is her unique ability to translate words into images, this same skill is now evident in her portrait and fine art work.
